Title:Top seeds ease into racquetball quarterfinals
FullStory:
(KOC-CNA July 21, Kaohsiung) There were no major upsets on the first day of the World Games racquetball tournament Tuesday, with the top seeds granted byes and other high seeds cruising into the quarterfinals.

With 15 players in the men's and women's draws, top seeds Rocky Carson and Rhonda Rajsich had byes in the round of 16 and most other matches went according to form at Chung Cheng Martial Arts Stadium.

Second seed Cheryl Gudinas Holmes of the United States beat Colombia's Christina Amaya 15-6, 15-5, despite a few hiccups at the start of the second set.

Amaya broke to a 3-1 lead after picking up the tempo and aiming low at the corners, but Gudinas Holmes quickly recovered and cruised home.

Third seed Paola Longoria of Mexico also had a relatively easy time, beating South Korea's Jung Eun Ane 15-8, 15-5.

Men's second seed Jack Huczek of the U.S. and third seed Vincent Gagnon of Canada also advanced without much of a struggle.

Also reaching the men's quarterfinals were Michael Green of Canada, Michimune Kono of Japan, Alvaro Beltran of Mexico, Fernando Rios of Ecuador, and Leopoldo Gutierrez of Mexico.

Joining Rajsich, Gudinas Holmes, and Longoria in the women's final eight are Yazmine Sabja of Bolivia, Jennifer Saunders of Canada, Josee Grandmaitre of Canada, Angela Grisar of Chile, and Toshiko Sakamoto of Japan.

Racquetball is a competitive sport played by two players in an enclosed court measuring 20 x 40 x 20 feet at the World Games.
Players are allowed to play the ball against all wall surfaces, with
the aim to hit the ball so that the opponent cannot return it before
its second bounce.

Matches consist of two sets to 15, with a third tiebreaker set to 11 played if the first two sets are split.

Racquetball is the only event at the Kaohsiung World Games that does not include any Chinese Taipei players.
