Title:U.S. players dominate racquetball quarterfinals
FullStory:
(KOC-CNA July 22, Kaohsiung) Fourth seed Jennifer Saunders of Canada was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the World Games racquetball tournament Wednesday, but the top seeded Americans seem headed toward potential showdowns in the men's and women's gold medal matches.

In the first women's single quarterfinals Wednesday, fifth-seed Angela Grisar of Chile coasted to a 15-7, 15-5 win over Saunders after jumping out to a 13-1 lead in the first set.

She was rarely threatened thereafter despite Saunders' efforts to mount a comeback.

Grisar is considered one of the few women who have a chance at derailing the American juggernaut that includes Cheryl Gudinas Holmes and Rhonda Rajsich in the women's draw and Jack Huzcek and Rocky Carson in the men's tournament.

Grisar will get her chance Thursday in the semis when she plays Rajsich, who beat Yazmine Sabja of Bolivia in straight sets.

In the other women's semifinal, Gudinas Holmes, who topped Toshiko Sakamoto 15-9, 15-10, will face Paola Longoria of Mexico.

Alvaro Beltran of Mexico, who defeated compatriot Leopoldo Gutierrez 15-8, 15-13, was one of those seen as having the best chance of breaking up an all-American men's final.

Gutierrez broke to a 3-0 lead in the second set but Beltran quickly recovered and scored five straight points to overcome his countryman. He'll get a crack at Carson, who beat Michael Green of Canada.

Vincent Gagnon of Canada will meet Huczek in the other men's semifinal.

The World Games fields are composed of the top finishers from the 2008 racquetball World Championships, which was the qualifier for the tournament in Kaohsiung.

Racquetball is a competitive sport played by two players in an enclosed court measuring 20 x 40 x 20 feet at the World Games.

Players are allowed to play the ball against all wall surfaces, with the aim to hit the ball so that the opponent cannot return it before its second bounce.
